UAV project

After a long search I listed the following reasons in the Philips LPC2138 as the UAV brain:

• 52 MHz for fast calculations and operations
• 14 ADC channels for analog sensorics
• 2 UARTs for serial modem and GPS
• 4 I²C bus interfaces for port expanders, sensors and drivers
• PI bus interface for In System Programming, sensors and control
• Programmable in C

Key facts of the LPC2138:

• 32bit ARM7 core
• LQFP64 pack
• 32 kB static ram and 512 kB flash memory
• Two 10 bit 8 chan. ADC
• 2 32bit timer with PWM
• 2 UARTs
• 2 I²C
• SPI, SSP
• 47 5V tolerant I/Os
• with crystal up to 50 MHz

Here is our testcircuit for the SparkFun IMU5-DOF. For our test we connected the analog sensor outputs with the ADCs of an AVR ATmega32 chip from Atmel.

The Software is very simple…read the ADC and send the measured signal over the UART to the computer.

On the IMU5 board is one IDG300 2 axis gyroscope and one ADXL330 3 axis accelerometer.

For the UAV, we created an easy to use eagle library with the most important breakout boards and modules from sparkfun electronics.

The library contains:

• IMU5 Degrees of freedom
  3 axis accelerometer and 2 axis gyroscope
• SCP1000 breakout board
• MicroMag3
  3 axis magnetic sensor
• SHT15 breakout board
  Humidity and temprature sensor

Betrieb bei Vs= 3,3 V und Vref = 3,3 V

Messungsergebnis:

Als nächstes kommt der 3 Achs Magnetsensor an die Reihe, worüber sicher die Tage einige Berichte online gestellt werden.

Nach der kurzen Stille, hier nun die ersten Ergebnisse der Sensoriktests.

Accelerometer

Der Code für das ganze ist nun auch nicht so spektakulär, da ich nur die gemessenen ADC Werte über den UART ausgebe. Für die Schaltung gilt:

VCCsensor, VREFsensor und VREFuc = 3,3 V
VCCuc = 5,0 V

Bald mehr von den anderen Sensoren.

Heute Abend habe ich nun den Schaltplan für das Sensoriksystem gezeichnet. Der ATmega16 stellt über den SPI Bus der Core CPU, also dem ARM, die Sensorikdaten zur Verfügung. Genug der Worte…

IMU 5 Degrees of Freedom
2 axis gyroscope and 3 axis accelerometer
This small breakoutboard is the most important sensor to stabilize the UAV. It measures the actual values for roll, pitch, acceleration in the X, Y and Z axis.

So nun mal ein bisschen etwas technisches… Um den richtigen Motorentreiber herauszufinden sollte ich auch wissen wie viel mein kleines Motörchen so verbraucht… Leider wie es so oft ist steht weder in der Bedienungsanleitung noch auf dem Motor irgenteine Angabe zu der Leistung oder dem Strom des Motors

Tja, dann ist man wohl zum Messen gezwungen:

Für den Heckrotor betrug Imax 0,88 A

Heute habe ich außerdem bei Sparkfun.com die Bestellung für die benötigte Sensorik aufgegeben. Zum Einsatz kommen:

IMU 5 Degrees of Freedom
2 Achs Neigungssensor (Gyroskop) und 3 Achs Beschleunigungssensor (Accelerometer)
Dieses kleine Breakoutboard ist mit Abstand der wichtigste Sensor zur Stabilisierung des UAVs. Es liefert die Ist Werte für Roll, Pitch, Beschleunigung nach vorn/hinten, rechts/links und oben/unten als analog Spannungen an die CPU..(wobei man hierzu schon soviel verraten darf das es sich um einen ARM7 core chip handeln wird)
